Fuck NYSEG (warning many fucking obsenities)

For those non-upstate NYers NYSEG is New York State Electric and Gas, its a monopoly and they suck. The other day I get home late after working then running to the hospital to see my sister then go see some friends by the time I got home it was after midnight I walk in and flip the light switch and nothing. WTF? so I try a few more, nothing. I had seen lights on at neighbors so I knew it wasn't an outage. Oh shit when did I last pay that? Ok so I can't be upset about turning off a service because I forgot to pay. What I am upset about is the fact that the last time I was late with payment they put a 72 hour notice on my door. It seems reasonable that they would give you a warning before cutting off a rather critical utility. So I went to the NYSEG HQ in the next town over to pay my bill. They told what I owed, it wasn't all that much I'm a single guy, so I handed them my card. "oh we don't take credit cards." Fuck you, you have a monopoly on the electric and gas utilities and you're trying to tell me that your financial system is behind every gas station in the country? They say you can pay by phone or online, clearly that shit isn't done with cash or check you twit. Luckily before any of that actually came out, but the look on my face might have said it anyway, the person at the next teller said oh I can do that over here. You're damn right you can, so after one more dirty look at the first person I turned and smiled at helpful teller. Then she says oh their is a $6.50 processing fee for using a credit card. My smile was gone. Six fucking dollar and fifty fucking cents? But what the fuck can I do about it but bend over and take it. I'm going to switch to... oh wait its a monopoly so if they feel like it they'll bend me over and drive it home any time they want and theres not a damn thing I can do about it. As for why I wasn't notified, their response, oh we only do that in the winter, thanks assholes. Oh and when I got home last night, still no power. Fucking Assholes. If I don't have power tonight, well there isn't a damn thing I can do about it now is there? Fuck

These guys prefer to use an 80 grit sandpaper condom. If you're not crying and bleeding then how can they get off? They're kinda like Cheney in that regard.

Don't you just love the customer service now-a-days? It seems as though forced ass-fucking is a mandatory class for new employee orientation.

Just thought I would stop by and spread some love. [POOF] I'm out!

I have been fighting overbilling for 30 months now. If anyone is interested in starting a class action suit against nyseg contact me at twinsdad5lp8@gmail.com

They are the biggest bunch of fucking nazis. My electric is getting shut off today because, unlike the phone co, the cable co, etc......they can't wait 2 fucking days for the money! Bunch of fucking cold hearted robots! I lost my job, my wife started the year with a 5 day hospital stay for which we have no insurance...does nyseg care? Not a fucking bit!
Anonymous.....if you're still interested in starting that, i'd gladly sign up!

That really sucks. I would think the best bet would be to try to convince them that it costs them more to send a crew out and shut off the power and turn it back on than to just wait two days. Although they would probably say, no it doesn't, we charge you to turn it back on.

The latest thing I love about NYSEG is that I get three bills a month, each for a totally different amount and then when I show up to pay its another completely un-related number.

Every power company is a monopoly. It's not just NYSEG.

True, and because they basically have to be a monopoly the government regulates them pretty tightly. If they aren't allowed to raise their rates then they start looking into other ways to get money out off us. They apparently came up with an insane credit card fee, which is fucked up.

NYSEG has really p$$$ed me off this time. I have three places I pay automatically payments each month with the paperless billing. We have a business on one of them, and today - WHILE WE WERE WORKING- they shut off the gas for a 44 dollar bill without even talking to us, notifying us or anything. We only found out tonite, when one of the tenants called who is staying in an upstairs apartment and its 23 degrees out - There is no gas. We frantically ran around looking for the problem, and the gas was shut off. You think they would of hung a tag, a 24 hour notice or something on one of the doors?? noooooo - So I go online, OVERPAY them a lot of money so this won't happen again. I begin calling all their numbers, and nothing is open - ONLY the emergency number. I call the emergency number and they said we can't do anything until the morning. What a crock of crap this is!!!! I'm so fed up with NYSEG and their crap. Once the idiots came to read the meter, in my fenced in yard (where my dogs were playing). The guy left the gate wide open. The dogs escaped, I called and complained. I swear I think NYSEG has a bunch of huns running the place. What kind of crap business cuts you off without notifying you?

To add to the top comment (forgot to proofread) We were working right at the business where they shut it off - all the open signs on, doors open, lights on , etc.

I moved to up state ny from the south west about 5 years ago and I have had ENOUGH (of NYSEG that is)

Here is my nightmare story...

A few years ago my daughter was born, me and my wife were working full time and were struggling to make ends meet. Our nyseg bill for this small, not even 800 sqft house we live in was way out of proportion. So on top of the expense of a new baby, rent and all the other typical monthly expenses, we were really having trouble budgeting for the electric/gas bill..

We would never NOT intentially pay the bill but we let it slide one month. Nycrap never contacted us or even sent a shut off. Then my hours got cut at work and then the struggle really began. We actually went another month with out paying and they simply just sent another bill, never called us and still no shut off notice.

I know this sounds bad but it was more our financial circumstance at the time and YES we dropped the ball with them, WE were the ones not paying and WE take 100% responsibility for that, end of story...BUT In the end we went about 11 months with out paying and somehow NYSEG just kept sending us the bill YET NEVER contacting us and NEVER threatend us with shut off UNTILL December of that year.

Now of course because of the closing of that fiscal year, I'm sure they HAD to do something with the account and THEN they called like, Johnny on the spot and they wanted ALL of it!! We are currently paying the crooks on a pmt plan and with MASSIVE arrears (again, our fault ultimately) and the threat of the agreement breaking the and the whole bill coming due at once if we are even late..

I believe in taking responsibility and once again, I will admit to our fault in this BUT in actuallity nyseg did the same thing and dropped the ball with us and let us get get this far into debt with them. If this were any other electric company, even after four weeks of non payment, they would be ringing the phone off the hook, banging on the door asking, "What the hell is going on???" But not NYSEG. There is something wrong at the core here and this was NOT JUST our fault...

Anonymous said...

Well, here it is, I let the bill slide for 10 days, otherwise no arrears, and I get a shutoff notice. WTF? 10 days, people! Their arrogance is astounding.

Well, I haven't missed ANY payments. I am on a steady "budget" plan where I pay them $134 a month, every month. I don't know why. This is a small apartment and I conserve in every way possible, but there it is.

So why the hell am I losing power on average 4 or more times a month? Most of the time it's just for a few seconds. Just enough to cause my computer to shut down and whatever I was working on to be lost, and all the digital clocks need to be reset. Other times it's been for between 2 and 18 hours. That last 18-hour one was caused by extremely bad weather conditions: yep, 10 minutes of light rain. Not even any wind.

I call whenever there's an outage, and the system says every time that 63 households have lost power in my area. One can assume it's the SAME 63 households every time. So there's obviously some piece of faulty equipment out this way that they just keep duct-taping back together, but which suffers a failure whenever the sky even looks like it might be thinking of dropping a raindrop or snowflake. I cringe whenever a cloud passes over. Come winter, we have no alternative sources of heat out this way (New Lebanon, NY), and we also lose water. Because it's a somewhat rural area (even though we're right off a main highway), in the case of a widespread outage, I bet we're the LAST priorities where it comes to restoring power, too. Yet we pay the same rates as all the people who don't have these problems and who get their power restored quickly. How is that fair in the least?

Isn't there an agency that regulates power companies and their standard of service? If they don't fix this issue before it gets cold again, I want to complain to them.

my electric is being shut off in about 8 days.... why you ask? because apparently they think not sending me a bill for 2 months is my fault.... or the post office's fault.... and i can't get an extension because.... wait for it.... i haven't paid them in 2 months.... despite DOZENS of calls to try to find out what i owe them and no one ever answering the fucking phones...... again, wait for it... because they are "facing a high volume of calls..... it's bad enough getting fucked in the ass, but they can't even do their fucking jobs... go figure

My housemate set up an autopay thing six months ago and they had no problem taking money out of his account every month due the first three months but I wake up today, which is one if days off, and notice the wifi is off... turns out they decided to stop taking money from his checking account 3 months ago and never ever sent us as bill til yesterday which doesn't say anything about a shut off!!! Fucking ridiculous!

It's funny/sad that this blog took place in 2007 and the stories continue to be just as aggravated. I have dealt with them for 30 years of my life and it has just gotten worse. When you have to pay a solid quarter or more of your paycheck to them every month and then get threatened with a shutoff or just plain shut off, something is seriously wrong.

Jer said...

Oh, and who is up for making FUCK NYSEG tee shirts with proceeds to go to people who can't afford the bill? Yeah, NYSEG technically gets the cash but with a good statement in place as to where and why they got said cash.

Unknown said...

I'm down with the shirts and I have a question. Does a 72 hour notice on Friday include Saturday and Sunday in them hours or just business days?

Nycrap says that they read the meter every other month, but I can prove my meter hasn't been read in the past 4 months. They claim to estimate it on last year's bill, but that isn't true either. Each month the bill goes up another $75.00, and each month it has been warmer than last year, and I don't even use or have electric heat. They think we are all stupid. I will join/sign that class action suit if anyone really brings one forward.

I wish nothing but evil things to that bitch that signs the termination letters. I have gotten three of them in the past five years because these incompetent ass tards fucked up the processing of my payment, and said I didn't pay them, thankfully I pay through my banks on line bill pay and after hours on the phone with these shitheads they "found" the problem, yeah the problem is they are like terminal cancer. They suck and you can't get rid of them. Not to mention now the mutant meter reader has now twice entered fraudulent fake readings causing excessive bills, and last year these dopes over estimated my bill do much that I did not catch up the next month. So what did these no common sense fuck heads do... They assumed I "flipped" my meter and sent me an $11,000 bill. FUCKING IDIOTS!

Is there anything we can do? Is there any way to fight them? People we need to rise up and defeat them somehow. They have been over charging me for years, stealing over and over and over again. It's not going to stop...unless we can figure out how to destroy them. Send in a spy, get hidden records. Uniting and taking them to court. Going off grid the first chance you get. Building tiny off the grid homes for a community. Working together...something...anything. How long will we take this abuse?...plz anyone out there...this madness has got to stop! Do we just give up all hope? Complain to one another with no solid solutions? Plz...somebody...enough is enough...
