Golden Compass

I don't know much about this film/book other than it's written by an atheist and its driving christians crazy despite having watered down some of the atheistic themes to try to avoid pissing off the fundies. Some are even upset that they watered it down, they claim that people will see the tamer movie then buy the book as a back door way to get children to question their faith. You just can't win with some people. Just by the random clicks across the Blogsphere I ended up at a site called Christian Apologetics Ministries, and of the 9 or 10 posts (at the time of writing) one of them was NOT about this movie. Now I knew a few people were annoyed but holy crap bro, even when I'm obsessing about a chick I break up the monotony a little bit. And why do people care so much? It's a movie, its fiction, I could see people getting upset about documentaries that deal with controversial issues, but with only a couple exceptions documentaries don't get enough audience for anyone to get upset about their content. I'm not really sure why I care enough about this apologists opinions to even bother with a reply, maybe I'm just trying to break up my monotony a bit.

Don't get your undies in a bundle. The Pullman series is getting a lot of attention- by myself included- because it is a current issue. It raises a lot of issues that can't be covered in just one or two issues. I will be posting even more.

If you'd bother to read any of the entries, you'd see that I am not advocating a boycott of the series. In other words I'm not being driven 'crazy.' It is an opportunity for Christians to inform themselves, their children, and yes, even you atheists.

When I heard about the Trilogy about three weeks ago I immediately went out and bought the set of books, I read the first book in 3 days, the 2nd in about 4 days, and I just started the third book today. It's a wonderful series, and although it does take some pokes at the 'church', it is basically the story of children approaching Adulthood by going on a long, complicated adventure. I highly reccoment it...... and I'm in my early 60's. It is a childrens adventure that adults will greatly enjoy. I wanted to read the entire trilogy before I get on line to see the movie, which from the small amount of trailors I've seen looks about as good as the Lord of the Rings series was. Katholicks should be more upset about their child-raping priests than about a childrens story. The church is DISGUSTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I won't deny that the Catholics have a problem that they need to deal with, but Catholicism is not the sum total of Christianity.

This is the downside to Anonymous posts. The first one is written as if its the person from Christian Apologetics Ministries. I did read a post or two, skimmed over a couple more. Then I noticed that almost every single post was about this series, and thats what I commented on. I never said or even tried to imply that you were encouraging a boycott of the movie. All I said was that you were obsessed over a work of fiction, and that alone amused me. I'm really not concerned with the opinions of a person who I've never met and holds an opposing world view's review of a children's movie.

As for anonymous numba 2, I do love books but I'm not into fantasy. Maybe if I get through the others I'm reading I'll check the first one out at the library.

Anonymous #3, no one said catholics were the sum of christianity, what was said was simply that its hard to listen to moral objections coming from an organization that protects child molesters. Our government now has the same problem.

Last, I'm not going to reply to spam. That might even be a website I'd enjoy but I hate spam so fuck that place.

Oh maybe that last one wasn't spam, just a person impersonating spam. I just noticed that it does say Hi QR at the top. Aw fuck maybe I will have to give them a chance. They probably just ran down the atheist blogroll and left them with everybody, if they didn't they should have.

I find it highly amusing that the Crimminal protagonist in the series is a miscreant named Mrs. Coulter. Any relation to the disgusting piece of Katholic excrement, Anne Coulter, I wonder??? Hmmmmmmmmmmmm!

I'll let you be amused by the fact that I posted quite a bit on the subject. It isn't an obsession. It's my job. It is my job to be informed and to inform others- who care, of course. I also am not really concerned with your opinions, either. It's the blogsophere... it has all kinds.

I posted a comment here mainly because I thought your criticism was simplistic and was prodding you into hopefully dealing with even a sliver of the substance that is adressed in those posts on the CAM site.

Ok, Last things first. Of course my criticism was simplistic by comparison, my opinion was that you're way too interested in what looks to be a mediocre movie, if my criticism wasn't simplistic by comparison then I would be guilty of the same thing. I have no intention of trying to debate you on the finer points of your critique because I for one don't care. If I'm given the opportunity to watch it for free on DVD in a few months I'll probably take that opportunity, if I run out of books I might even go read the book, but I'm sure as hell not going to sit around discussing something I've never read or seen and have only passing interest in doing either. If you're looking for an intellectually stimulating debate then I suggest trying to find someone who has a firmly held opposing belief, not an ambivalent person who's simply laughing at you for being so worked up about something so trivial in the first place. If on the other hand you don't care about stimulating debate but really just want to find someone to trounce on then it makes perfect sense to go after a person who doesn't care. Did you think I'd take the bait only to be pounced upon, then hold up my lifeless argument to show to the world like a screaming ancient warrior showing the scalp of his most recent victim. Well sorry bud, I don't play that game.

As for Other Anonymous, Yeah the Coulter thing is funny. I assume it was intentional.
